Introduction:
Rudok Lhundup Choding Monastery is the main representation of its ancient monastery in Western Tibet, which thrived before the 1959 era and was under the affiliation of Sera Jey Monastery for centuries. It was reestablished at Leh Ladhak - India in the 1960's; and for several decades the remoteness and backwardness of the place have left the monastery in a state of total seclusion beyond its local region.
The remote location and the underdeveloped socio economic life of the community, is one of the main reason for the monastery to remain backward without any progress for several decades.
Restoration:
The year 2006 was the turning point for Rudok Monastery following the appointment of Abbot - Khen Rinpoche Geshe Jampa Gyatso. He was instrumental in guiding and leading the monastery's state of affairs for a complete change over, restoring spiritual and monastic curriculum, initiating teachings and ritual services for the public community.
Curriculum:
Rudok Monastery follows its age old traditional curriculum - culture & practices in its day to day and periodic activities. The novice monks receive training in reading, writing Tibetan Language, memorization of basic prayers & scriptural texts. Teachings and Instructions on scriptural texts are guided by elder monks.
The monastery also provides prayer & ritual services to devotees & community and in line as advocated by His Holiness The Dalai Lama, the monastery organize Dharma Teachings to the public.
The monastery is in the process of making significant strides in developing its curriculum to newer heights.
Legal Status:
The monastery is registered under the State of Jammu and Kashmir - Societies Registration Act VI of 1998 (1941 A.D), bearing Registration No. 1798 -S of 1991
