Uma & Pharchin Rab 'byams-pa Ceremony - 2010

 
 

The annual Uma Pharchin Rab 'byams-pa Ceremony for the year 2010 is to be conducted on the evening of 28 of August 2010.

It is an academic ceremony held for pupils completing the Madhyamika (Uma) and Prajna Paramita (pharchin) (two of the Five Main courses) after several years of studying & understanding the vast Treasure of knowledge & wisdom.

Merit of rank is awarded to top leading pupils of the group at the ceremony.

The monastery graciously take the privilege to have this year's Rab 'byams-pa ceremony in a special way by inviting senior delegates of The First National General Body Meeting that is currently proceeding at Bylakuppe Settlement from 26 - 31 August 2010.

 
     
  Annual Oral Examination - 2010  
 

This year's Oral Examination commences today - 18 August 2010.

The traditional oral form has of late been conducted in a written form as a measure of ascertaining pupil's knowledge of Texts in black & white.

This year thee examination is conducted before its normal schedule - 17th day of 7th Tibetan Calendar month in view of the upcoming visit of His Holiness The Dalai Lama.

 
     
  Rigs-chen ceremony 2010  
 

The Rigs-chen (meaning Major in Tibetan) Debate ceremony is conducted 28th & 29th of Tibetan Calendar (8 & 9 August 2010).  As per tradition, only two leading merited pupils are selected from the Karam stage (the final stage / collection pool, on completing the entire 19 year's course, and from where pupils will be nominated for Geshe title & the best few merited are nominated for Lharam Geshe course).

The two selected pupils will contend at Sera Lachi Monastery during the two day this Rigs-chung debate ceremony.

This year's Rigs-chung (meaning Minor in Tibetan) Debate ceremony is conducted from 23rd - 27th day of Tibetan Calendar     (4 - 8 August 2010) where 16 merited pupils amongst the new batch of Pharchin (Paramita) course stage will participate in this five day debate ceremony.

  Commemoration of 50 Years Exile in India  
 


The monastery is organizing a Commemoration of Tibetan community's 50 Years Exile in India on the 7th of March 2010, in honor & gratitude to the people & government of India for the invaluable & immeasurable hospitality & support extended to us for the last 50 years.

An exceptionally special ceremony is organized - inviting government dignitaries, local authorities / pulic and Tibetan community - monk / nun / lay, to join in this joyful thanksgiving ceremony.

The program will conclude with serving of special Lunch for all - guests & public.

  Cancellation of Hosting of The Maitreya Project's Heart Shrine Relics at Sera Jey:  
 


We regret to notify all concerned that the proposed Hosting of The Maitreya Project's Heart Shrine Relics at Sera Jey Monastery from 5 - 7 March 2010, had to be called off, as the two main venue for South Indian Tour - Chennai & Bangalore had not been granted legal permits by the two respective metromopolitan's authorities.

 

 
     
  Felicitation ceremony for the enthronement of Jangtse Choeje  
 


The Felicitation ceremony to Gyudmed Khensur Rinpoche Geshe Lobsang Tenzin for the enthronement to the revered Dharma seat of Jangtsen Choeje in the Gelugpa Tibetan Buddhist tradition is held on 31 January 2010 in the main Prayer Assembly Hall of Sera Jey.

Jangtsen Choeje Rinpoche Geshe Lobsang Tenzin was formally enthroned with the blessings of His Holiness The Dalai Lama at Bodh Gaya on 5th January 2010.   He is one of the senior & learned scholar of this monastery and affiliated to Sera Jey Tsangpa Khangtsen, and has in the past contributed & served as the Abbot of Gyudmed Tantric Monastery.

Jetsun Choekyi Gyaltsen ( 1464 - 1544) was the revered scholar & author of Sera Jey Monastery's scriptural Texts.

  Annual Winter Debate Congregation (Jang dgun-mchod):  
 


This year's (2009) annual Winter Debate Congregation (JJang dgun-mchod)
is held at Sera Monastery, 2nd - 30th day of 10th Tibetan Calendar month (18 Nov. - 6 Dec. 2009).

Pupil monks from the six monastic institutes of the three main Gelug monasteries - Sera, Ganden & Drepung; Tashi Lhunpo, Namgyal Dratsang, the two Tantric monasteries - Gyuto & Gyudmed, Dzongkar Choden and Dakpo monastery in Phuntsokling Settlement - Orrisa, participate in this month long debate congregation.

Each respective monastery depute selected no of pupils from Shung (Prajnaparamita) to the final Karam course stage to this debate. A total of over 800 pupil monks from Sera Jey Monastery has been selected and are participating in this debate congregation.
