The annual week long post Summer Retreat break will commence from 7 September 2010.

This summer break comes just after the recent visit of His Holiness The Dalai Lama & commemoration of 50th anniversary of founding Tibetan Democracy celebration that was grandly hosted at Sera Jey.

 
     
 
Sera Jey to host the Commemoration of 50th anniversary of founding of Tibetan Democracy :
 
 


Sera Jey Monastery has one again with all humility extends its generosity in good will & commitment to service by volunteering to host the special ceremony of 50th anniversary of founding of Tibetan Democracy Day on the 2nd of September 2010.  

The monastery is all set to extend its best possible hospitality - from setup of podium to pitching gigantic rooftop tents to accomodate the expected 20 thousand plus public, serving Tea & Sweet Rice at start of ceremony as per Tibetan tradition and Lunch to dignitaries & the public at large.

The monastery's administrtion & special appointed committee for His Holiness The Dalai Lama's visit, with total commitment has been putting all effort - cost & service, for ensuring success of His Holiness short stay at the monastelry from 1st - 3rd September and the special commemoration event in which His Holiness will participate & be honored with a special award.

The exile Tibetan Government on behalf of the entire Tibetan community will confer a Special Award to His Holiness The Dalai Lama as a token of obeisance & indepth gratitude for gifting Democracy to the exile Tibetan polity.

 
     
 
Gathering of Ministers, Parliamentarians & Dignitaries for Ceremony at Sera Jey: PHOTO gallary
 
 

The annual Uma & Pharchin Rab 'byams-pa Ceremony was conducted on 28 August 2010 at 6 pm.

The ceremony was specially hosted at the monastery's Debate Courtyard making perfect use of the gigantic yet elegant tents that are pitched for hosting the commemoration of 50th anniversary of founding of Tibetan Democracy.

Over 500 guests - delegates of the First Tibetan National General Meeting at Bylakuppe (26 - 31 Aug. 2010) were invited for the ceremony, where the lists includes the highest personalities in exile Tibetan polity - Venerable Samdong Rinpoche (Prime Minister of TGIE) & his entire cabinet ministers, Mr. Penpa Tsering la & Mrs. Gyari Dolma la (Speaker & Deputy Speaker of TPIE) with the entire members of TPIE, representatives of TGIE & NGO's, intellectuals and adhock representatives from settlements for the General Body Meeting. This convergence of huge high profile personalities of every stratum of Tibetan community in exile added much significance to the ceremony that was attended by over four thousand monks.

Geshe Yeshe Gyatso - Administrator (Chanzo) of monastery read out the program itinerary. The Chief Guest - Venerable Geshe Tsering Phuntsok la, the Minister of Religion & Culture (CTA) inaugurated the Ceremony in line with the traditions & customs of Tibet. Serving of Sweet Rice & Tea followed the inauguration to guests & the gathering.

The monastery's abbot - Khen Rinpoche Acharya Geshe Lobsang Palden gave a warm welcome speech to the honorable Chief Guest / Guests & the gathering.

Following then, Geshe Thupten Namgyal la - Director of Sera Jey Monastery's Board of Examination read out the name list of merited pupil monks from the two courses - Uma (Madhyamika) & Pharchin (Paramita). Hon'ble Chief Guest - Venerable Tsering Phuntsok - la presented the awards to respective recipients.

The Principal of Sera Je Secondary School - Venerable Acharya Rinchen Tsering la, read out the name list of merited pupil monks of - SJSS Class X CBSE Board Exam, The Science Meets Dharma Course, The English & Chinese Translation Course. Mr. Thupten Lungrik the Hon'ble Minister for Education (CTA) presented these awards to respective recipients.

The Chief Guest - Venerable Tsering Phuntsok la gave a speech for the occasion - summarily briefing on the concept & value of the ceremony & some highlights on the two courses - Uma (Madhyamika) & Pharchin (Paramita).

The Chief Disciplinarian (Dean) of the Monastery - Geshe Tsewang Dorjee la presented a speech to the guests & the gathering, on monastic education & spiritual / cultural curriculum; emphasizing the monastery's inherent principle & objective of preserving & promoting Tibetan Buddhist philosophy & monastic culture following in line with its supreme spiritual leader - His Holiness The Dalai Lama. He finally concluded with a gracious Thank You closing note to conclude the Ceremony.

The monastery in its earnest commitment took the oppurtunity to host a Special Dinner to The Chief Guest & all respectable Guests, just after the ceremony.

 
     
 
His Holiness The Dalai Lama's visit :
 
 

Bylakuppe is once again blessed with the good fortune of His Holiness The Dalai Lama's forthcoming visit on 31st August 2010.

His Holiness will address the First National General Body Meeting's conclusion day on the 31st of August 2010.  This meeting to be held at Bylakuppe settlement will be attented by over 400 delegates from Ministers to members of TPIE (Tibetan Parliament in-exile) and NGO's to general Tibetan settlers.

A Life Long Ceremony will be offered to His Holiness The Dalai Lama by the Tibetan Government in-exile on behalf of the entire Tibetan community, on the 1st of September 2010 at Sera Mey Monastery.

His Holiness will attend the 50th anniversary of founding of Tibetan Democracy Day organized by the exile Tibetan Government. This ceremony and the Special Meeting is specifically planned to be hosted at Bylakuppe - being one of the oldest & largest Tibetan Settlements in India.

Sera Jey Monastery will host the Commemoration of the 50th anniversary.

 
     
  Annual Summer Retreat  
 

The annual Summer Retreat for the year 2010 commences from 26 July 2010 (16 th day of 6 th Tibetan Calendar Month).

The one & half month long retreat commences with a prayer assembly gathering of two monastic institutes - Sera Jey & Sera Mey at Sera Thekchenling on the 15th day of 6th month, as per traditional practice to profess oath for the retreat.

The retreat is observed with the intention to avoid circumstances of harming / killing insects & lives, that thrive during the season, by oneself when walking / workiing.

 
     
 
Rikhram Geshe graduation ceremony:
 
 

This year's Rikhram Geshe ceremony takes place from 20 th - 24 th day of 5 th Tibetan Calendar Month (1 st - 4 th July 2010) with nine candidates to be conferred with the title, which is the third rung among the four different category of Geshe, following their successful completion of monastic curriculum & qualification criteria.

Lingse Geshe graduation ceremony:
 
 

The annual Lingse Geshe ceremony is scheduled on 11, 12 & 13 day of 3rd Tibetan Calendar month (24 25 & 26 of April 2010). There are six pupils who will be conferred with the Lingse Geshe title (which is the fourth rung among the four different category of Geshe) following their successful completion of monastic curriculum & qualification criteria.

The annual Tsokhram Geshe ceremony is schedule on 15 & 17 of March 2010.  Six pupils will be conferred with the second highest monastic scholarly award during the 2 day ceremony, following their successful qualification at their final year Gelukpa University examination held in 2009.

  Annual Written Examination  
 

The annual Written Examination for all respective classes commences today 24 January 2010 . This examination carries a maximum total of 50 points to the aggregate total of 300 points.

 
     
  Special Prayers for His Holiness The Dalai Lama  
 

The monastery organized a full strength assembly of day long Special Prayers for the Long Life of Holiness The Dalai Lama, to coincide with the Tenshuk (Life Long Offering) Ceremony to His Holiness by the exiled Tibetan Government & the Tibetan people at Dharamsala on the 23rd of January 2010.

 
     
  Sancho-chenmo Prayer Ceremony:  
 

The annual Sancho-chenmo Prayer Ceremony in veneration of Jetsun Choege Gyaltsen's mortal departure is pre-scheduled to 22nd to 26th December 2009; and shortened by two days to accommodate with the Geluk Monlam Chenmo (Geluk's Major Prayer Ceremony) & HIs Holiness Teachings at Bodh Gaya from 3 - 10 January 2010.
